Snoring, Sleep Apnea and Heart disease
Mar 10, 2015

Snoring is a common symptom of sleep apnea related to heart disease, a leading cause of death in the U.S. 25 million U.S. adults are affected by obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and the prevalent rate is up to 40 percent in hypertension patients. OSA is characterized by repetitive collapses of the upper airway during sleep, and causes pauses in breathing. These respiratory events result in reduction of oxygen in blood, heavy burden on heart, elevated blood pressure, and prevalence of heart diseases. CPAP therapy, a common treatment for OSA, provides benefits to blood pressure control, reduces heart disease risk, and reverses the effect of sleep apnea on heart.
