More and more studies draw the links between the occurrence of sleep apnea and worrisome health-conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes and weakening memory.Compared with general men and women, the overall mortality rate is 3 times higher in people with severe OSA (AHI > 30). Patients with heart failure or hypertension should be regularly screened for sleep apnea. The relationship between diabetes, obesity and sleep apnea has been discussed very often, but more evidences are still needed to prove the causality. Furthermore, a recent study shows that CPAP therapy improves the spatial memory skills of OSA patients.
